Meet the surf coaches

Most surf camps sell you a "professional surf instructor" and you find out who that is on the beach. Morocco Surf Club names the coach before you pay, with a public profile, real session photography and the languages they coach in. Groups are capped at 5 surfers per coach, so who is watching you is not a detail — it is most of what you are buying.

Coaching philosophy

The goal is not to push you into waves

Anyone strong enough can shove a beginner into white water, and it produces a good photograph and no surfing. The point of a coached week is that you understand why you caught the wave: where you were sitting, when you started paddling, and what the wave was doing when you committed. That knowledge is what you take home; the wave itself stays here.

It is also why the group is capped. Past roughly five surfers in moving water, a coach stops watching individual takeoffs and starts counting heads — which is a safety job, not a coaching one. See how a session is structured on the coaching method page.

About the coaches

The coaches — your questions answered

Who coaches your week, in which language, and what they can show you before you pay.

Will I know who is coaching me before I pay?

Yes. The lead coach is named on this site with a public profile, session photography, and languages before you book, rather than a generic "professional instructor" line. If a different coach will run your specific week, we say so in the written quote.

What are the coach’s qualifications?

Before payment, you can ask to review the named coach’s available training and safety records. Your written quote also confirms who is coaching, the five-surfer group cap, your dates and the total in euros.

Which languages can I be coached in?

English, French, Arabic, and Spanish. Tell us your preferred language with your dates so the quote, the arrival notes, and the in-water briefings all use the same one.

How long has the coach been surfing these breaks?

Jamal has coached in Taghazout Bay since 2014 and grew up surfing the points around Taghazout, Tamraght, and Anza. Local knowledge is the part of a surf week that cannot be bought in: which sandbank has moved this season, which tide the reef starts working on, and where a nervous beginner should not be put.
