A beginner surf camp in Morocco, built around your first week in the water.

If you have never stood on a surfboard, this is the week for you. Morocco Surf Club is a small-group beginner surf camp in Taghazout Bay, near Agadir, for guests who need a safe, repeatable foundation. Groups are capped at 5, the coach picks forgiving sand breaks around your level, and board and wetsuit are included. Progress is individual; the week does not promise a specific wave or skill outcome.

It is normal to be nervous before the first paddle-out

Many first-time guests arrive with a mix of excitement and worry about falling behind. The group is matched by level, and the first sessions prioritise water confidence, board control, and repeatable technique rather than promising that everyone will progress at the same speed.

We start in white water on a stable, high-volume foam board where standing up is more forgiving. Progress depends on fitness, sea confidence, conditions, and practice; the coach adjusts the plan around what is safe that day.

Your first week, day by day

From never-surfed to choosing your own waves

This is the arc a complete beginner usually follows. Conditions move it around — the coach reads the forecast each morning — but the direction is always the same: confidence first, green waves later.

  1. Days 1–2

Get comfortable and build the setup

Ocean safety, how to carry and control the board, and pop-up practice in white water. Standing may happen here, but safety and repeatability come first.

  2. Days 3–4

    Stop rushing the takeoff

Timing your entry so you stop nose-diving, plus your first decisions about which way to ride.

  3. Days 5–7

Apply the basics in suitable conditions

When conditions and control allow, work toward small unbroken waves; otherwise consolidate white-water skills and finish with a clear next-step plan.

Why beginners do well here

Small groups and the right wave, not a crowded lesson

  • Groups capped at 5 per coach, so every pop-up is seen and corrected.
  • Condition-led breaks: we favour sand-bottom training areas when the day's depth, current, crowd, and shorebreak suit the group.
  • Gear sized to you, so you are not fighting the wrong board while learning the basics.
  • Honest spot calls: if the swell jumps, we move to protected setups instead of pushing you out of your depth.

Safety and travel cover

A named local coach, a beach check, and a clear plan

We take ocean safety seriously so you can focus on learning. The beach, board, group, and session length are chosen around the people and waves we have that day.

Know who is coaching you

We name the coach before you book. You can ask to see the available training and safety records before payment; a public outside verification link is not available yet.

Before anyone enters the water

We watch several sets, point out the safe area, currents, rocks, and the way back to shore, then change beach or plan when the conditions do not suit the group.

If something goes wrong

A first-aid kit travels with the group. The team knows how to contact local help and reach medical care in Agadir.

Bring travel insurance that covers surfing

Every guest needs personal travel insurance that includes surfing. We check the policy details when you arrive so you know what medical and activity cover you have.

Beginner questions

Beginner surf camp — your questions answered

Can I join if I have never surfed before?

Yes — most guests who book the beginner week have never stood up on a board. The first day is ocean safety, board control, and popping up in white water on a stable foam board. You are never thrown into waves above your level.

Will I actually be able to stand up in a week?

Many beginners stand in white water during a seven-day week, but no responsible coach can guarantee when you will stand or catch an unbroken wave. Progress depends on conditions, fitness, water confidence, recovery, and practice. The goal is a safe, repeatable foundation: board control, pop-up mechanics, positioning, etiquette, and independent decisions appropriate to your level.

Is Morocco safe for a beginner surfer?

Morocco can suit a beginner when the coach selects a manageable training area after checking swell, tide, depth, current, shorebreak, crowd, and entry. A sand bottom can reduce reef exposure but does not make a fall risk-free. Beginners should not be placed at advanced points when the day's conditions or access exceed their demonstrated ability.

I am not very fit — is that a problem?

Surfing is tiring at first, mostly from paddling. We keep beginner sessions to meaningful reps rather than exhausting marathons, and we break earlier if your arms fade. You do not need to be an athlete; you need to be willing to keep getting back up.

How is this different from your regular surf camp?

It is the same capped week and the same coaching — this page just focuses on the first-timer experience: the fear of the first paddle-out, what day one really feels like, and how we build confidence. The full schedule, packages, and pricing live on our surf camp page.

What is the best time of year for beginners?

Spring and autumn often suit first-timers best: smaller, friendlier swell, warmer air, and quieter lineups. Winter brings more power and is better once you have a few sessions behind you. We can steer you to a beginner-friendly week when you tell us your dates.
